Drainage work

If you have played golf over the last few months you have more than likely noticed that the zoysia fairway on hole #13 has stayed very wet.  Last week we took advantage of some dry weather and installed almost 400 feet of new drain pipe to try to help solve our drainage issues.  Using a trencher we rented, we were able to cut all the lines in one day.  What we found when trenching was some drain that had already been installed, but was not adequate for the job of draining for turf.  See the picture below:
This is flat drainage tile which was installed at some time in the past.  It is flat and does not allow water to quickly move through during heavy rains.  We had to remove all of this pipe we found and replace it with 4 inch perforated drain pipe.

This is the trencher we rented for the day to help do the work.  We also took the opportunity to add a drain line behind #2 green because it has been much wetter than normal lately!

Here is a view looking back from the green on #13.  You can see some of the drain lines in the foreground, and our crew working on some farthest away from the green in the picture.  It took us a little over 3 days to complete in play, but already has shown signs of improvement.  We will sod in a few weeks once we get sod in for a major project coming in a few weeks.  More on that sod project to come soon!
